When Times are tough
I know a lot of us are going through a series of emotions during these difficult times. Some of us could be worried about potential loss of income, for some it could be safety of our loved ones. Young parents will be juggling with a demanding regime whereas for some it could the idea of no social interaction.
I am sharing my personal methods of getting through difficult times. Please do share how you cope through tough situations. Would like to know them.
1. This too shall pass
Life is nothing but ebbs and flows. Remind yourself that this is only temporary. The humanity has been here before and it will do so again.
2. The serenity prayer :
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,
courage to change the things I can,
and wisdom to know the difference.
Easier said than done, but do try.
3. Feel your feelings
Cry if you feel like, yell if you are angry. Find a way to vent out your frustrations in a healthy way.
4. कराग्रे वसते लक्ष्मिः करमध्ये सरस्वति ।
करमूले तु गोविन्दः प्रभाते करदर्शनम् ॥
Karaagre Vasate Lakssmih Karamadhye Sarasvati |
Karamuule Tu Govindah Prabhaate Karadarshanam ||
Meaning:
1: At the Top of the Hand (i.e. Palm) Dwell Devi Lakshmi and at the Middle of the Hand Dwell Devi Saraswati,
2: At the Base of the Hand Dwell Sri Govinda; Therefore one should Look at one’s Hands in the Early Morning and contemplate on Them.
Very ironic during these times of checking your hands in the morning. This is a prayer which I have inherited from my father. Use the power of your hands to do something.
Learn a craft, maybe do rosary beads or simply scrub the floors.
4. Exercise
Enough said. Know the science behind it.
5. Watch a funny film/episode
We are currently doing re-run of Death in Paradise.
6. Practise gratitude
List down things which you are grateful for or return a favour to those who have helped you. Volunteer for a cause, donate to a charity of your choice.
7. Meditate
Give it a try 🙂
8. Lastly, will end on another prayer.
oṃ sarve bhavantu sukhinaḥ
sarve santu nirāmayāḥ
sarve bhadrāṇi paśyantu mā kaścidduḥ khabhāgbhaveta।
oṃ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ śāntiḥ॥
May all sentient beings be at peace,
may no one suffer from illness,
May all see what is auspicious, may no one suffer.
Om peace, peace, peace.
